Because it`s fun. It develops your thinking, fine motor skills and polishes your creativity. Because spreading glue on paper to create a concertina book is magic. Because a Japanese Stab bind book is as much fun as it sounds. Because analogous work is actually rewarding.
I recall my mother hunched over her Singer sewing machine. I understood why people paid her instead of buying clothes at the store. No one else will have the clothes she designed and made! Book binding has always fascinated me, but like everything else that takes effort, I was too lazy to do it.
Having such a powerful motivator than an F in lieu of my comfort, got me off my duff and did it. So when I ran out of cover paper, I started ripping through catalog covers like they were going out of style. Paper flying out, scissors cutting, awls stabbing and needles binding. I may never go pro, but look how cool they look!
